Gay and Muslim

January 21st, 2008 by john

There’s been quite a lot of very distressing news coming onto the internet about treatment of Gay Muslim men and women.

Amidst all this has appeared a short film about an Arab family dealing with the issue of a gay son who has contracted AIDS. Very, very moving!

It’s called ‘A Plastic Plate’

Vitality and Prosperity in Gay Community

January 21st, 2008 by john

In his book ‘The Pleasure Principle’ Michael Bronski argues convincingly that gay culture has a unique vitality that continues to make significant contributions to mainstream culture.
The “unique position” of homosexuals he says “as sexual outsiders endows them with an unparalleled vision for cultural and social change.”
This is why gay society is not assimilating to the straight ideal but that straight society is gradually accepting, adopting and drawing more from gay culture.
More so of course in some countries than in others - countries across the Asia Pacific, for example, vary considerably with regard to both legal acceptance and social recognition of homosexuals and gay culture.
Bronski’s book is a great encouragement to us all.
As individuals and communities we make very important contributions to society sharing our skills and talents, showing empathy for struggles others face and working to make the world a better place not just for ourselves but for all people.
logoSo we like the idea of getting together on our GayAsiaPacific Network to connect with each other, writing our blogs to tell the world who we are, what we do and what makes us and our communities each very special.
We hope many others will join us as we welcome friends from everywhere without prejudice or discrimination of any kind - helping to build vitality and prosperity in gay community and making the world a better, safer, and more pleasurable place for us all.

Online Shopping : Determining The Pace

January 21st, 2008 by john

Our Online Mall Team are keen to run some posts about Internet Shopping because as more people find it a convenient way to shop there’s an increasing demand on site owners to cater to a greater variety of interests and expectations.

malllogoWhen we first discussed the idea on a Gay Online Mall we looked at what shops you’d find in your average real mall and which of those we could redevelop as shops on the internet. We decided not to tackle fresh food type outlets for the moment as most would have to be home delivery from local shops - maybe further down the line. What we felt comfortable with divided into 3 categories : Discount Bargain Stores, Specialty Shops and Boutiques.

Then we needed to decide how to present them. Each offers different content from a huge variety of cheap products to quality crafted designer products in an individual category. When you go shopping are you always in a hurry or always leisurely browsing?. Probably both, depending on what you’re shopping for. This determines your pace!

So we looked to provide quick and easy access for the discount stores, provide more relaxed ambience for when you’re looking for some specialty products and a more personalised tone for browsing through the boutiques.

The team’s keen to know how you find the pace in our mall!
